Sangre De Cristo Electric Circulates Kill A Watt™ Monitors to Area Libraries
In May and June of 2010 Sangre De Cristo Electric delivered Kill A Watt™ monitors to the West Custer, Lake, Saguache, Buena Vista, Salida Regional and the Cotopaxi School and Community Libraries. The monitors are available to be checked out and are designed to show the operating cost of household appliances. You can program your actual kilowatt hour cost and the monitor will calculate by day, week, month, or annual kilowatt usage of any appliance that you plug into the front of the device.
Marty Frick, Director of the West Custer County Library, was very excited to receive the monitors into the library’s collection. The Library just underwent an extensive energy audit in February. After the audit they used the Kill A Watt™ monitor to decide if the staff wanted to keep the compact refrigerator in the break room. “The monitor calculated the annual cost to operate the compact refrigerator at $24 per year. So, we decided it was worth it. These are great little devices that are not only educational and practical, but will also provide useful information to our members,” commented Frick.
Chaffee County Library Director Gail Nottingham was also thankful to receive the monitors into the library’s collection. “The monitors are available to the community for “check out” by families in the community to assess their home’s usage,” Nottingham said.
Sangre De Cristo Electric’s CEO, Paul Erickson, noted that “the monitors are one way that we can help educate our members, and non-members alike, of what the actual operating costs of household appliances really are. This is the type of program that I like to see Sangre De Cristo Electric implement because it benefits the entire community.”
