19 ~ J.Wail in the SteamPlant
Ballroom at 10:00 p.m. - It is the dawn of an age of digital
wizardry where gadgets seem to surge in song, congealing in an amalgamation
of buzzes, beeps and blips. The pulsing of machines and pounding of concrete
and steel in symphonic collage power our world. J.Wail rises to the call
of the sonic traffic controller, poised behind a palette of electronic
devices with his Telecaster in hand. The dance floor becomes the launch
pad where he fuses live instrumentation with organic electronica propelling
mind, soul and booty into the upper stratosphere of sound. Stretching
into the DJ-based dance sound with the approach of a live band he creates
his "avant-garde club-funk-rock" through innovative techniques
using live guitar, bass, vocals, synthesizers, and live electronics.

26 - 27 Volunteers for Outdoor
Colorado is working with the Salida Mountain Trails organization on a
trail building project. Volunteer to “give back” to the outdoors during
the day and enjoy Salida’s ArtWalk festivities in the evening.
Back Bone is not only the name of the trail that we will be tackling on
this project, but it is also the centerpiece of an ambitious plan to build
40 miles of new hiking trails in the Arkansas valley. Much of the planned
recreational area was donated by the City of Salida with the goal of providing
a healthy outlet for the citizens of Colorado and surrounding towns. The
land had previously been subjected to significant dumping and illegal
use, however since the implementation of several trails the area has seen
a sharp decrease in litter.
Volunteers will be building a continuation of the Back Bone trail which
will connect to existing trails in the general vicinity. The trail will
be open to hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners, and will allow
users to take in some of the most stunning views of the Collegiate Peaks
in the Arkansas valley.
Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) provides hands-on volunteer opportunities
for Coloradoans to help protect, enhance, restore, and preserve our state’s
natural resources.
