6 ~ Kort McCumber performs at the Salida Cafe and Roastery - 8pm to 10pm
Singer-songwriter Kort McCumber weaves a rich and diverse tapestry of musical experience, skill and energy into each and every one of his many musical endeavors. A classically trained pianist & cellist, Kort plays guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, piano, bouzouki, cello / folk, country, blues and bluegrass, with a healthy dose of something fresh. $10 requested. 6 ~ SteamPlant 7:00 – 10:00 pm: Jaka Live in Concert, Ballroom. - Presented by Articipate and Friends of the SteamPlant.. Get your dance on with the energetic sounds of 5-piece Afro-Pop band JAKA. . The River Tribe opens the night at 7 pm. Tickets, sold at the door, are $10 for adults, $3 for children.

 

7 ~ SteamPlant 9:00 – 2:00 pm: Auditions for the Stage Left Production Dancing at Lughnasa, Auditions are by appointment only. To learn more call 719.239.1978 and ask for Jan. Please prepare a short monologue (30 – 60 seconds) in an Irish accent. Expect to read short passages from the script. Designers, builders and techs are also needed.

9 ~ Meet & Greet members of Ark Valley High Rollers (AVHR) will be at Moonlight pizza during happy hour (4:00 - 6:00 PM) to talk to you about roller derby, upcoming events and how to be a part of the league.

12 ~ SteamPlant 5:30 – 7:00 pm: Creative Mixer, Diesslin Gallery, Riverside Annex – FREE
Salida Art Works hosts its monthly happy hour, the Creative Mixer, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in our Riverside Annex.

 

13 ~ Salida Cafe and Roastery presents Mark Dudrow and Justin Dean or the many incarnations of the black Cello. 8pm -10pm. Mark Dudrow and Justin Dean return for an evening of acoustic fiddle drinkin' cello music. This duo features the guitar, fiddle and crystal clear vocals of Justin Dean .and the shredding cello of Mark Dudrow, as they glide through Bluegrass, Celtic, and Rock n Roll.

 

14 ~ Salida Chamber of Commerce hosts, 'A Class Act' Community Awards evening at the Salida SteamPlant. Enjoy a special evening to honor the very finest of Salida. Evening begins with light appetizers at 5:30, awards program in theatre 6:30 -7:30, 7:30 - 9 hors d'oeuvres followed by after party at the Boathouse Cantina. 15 ~ Walden Chamber Music Society 2pm - 4pm at the SteamPlant Theater
The Walden Chamber Music Society presents its second 2011-2012 season concert at 3 :00pm, with an informance at 2 :00pm, during which pianist Jo Boatright, explains and gives a short musical demonstration of the music to be performed. The concert features world renown violinist Robert Davidovici, acclaimed on five continuents as a virtuoso, who has performed on all major international stages with major orchestras, violist Barbara Sudweeks from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, cellist Camilla Bonzo and concert pianist Jo Boatright. They will perform music by Mozart, Ravel and Brahms. Tickets are $15/adult and are available on line and in person at the SteamPlant Theater, at the Salida and Buena Vista Chambers of Commerce and at the door prior to the concert. 21~ Beer Pong at Wallbangers in Salida with Ark Valley High Rollers (AVHR) - fun starts at 8:00 PM. Meet the members of AVHR and play beer pong! Great time to hang out with the members of AVHR and hear about how you can be a part of this fun and amazing group of people. Come see if they are as good as beer pong as they are at playing roller derby. Small fee applies if you want to participate in beer pong. (Wallbangers 720 E HWY 50 Salida)

 

21~ SteamPlant 7:30 – 9:30 pm: Dance Salida Dance, Theater
Salida’s first ever collaborate dance project, “Dance Salida Dance” takes our main stage for a memorable evening showcasing a diversity of local talent. The performance combines an eclectic mix of modern dance, Broadway, tap, jazz, hip hop, tango, African and contra dance. Participating performers include: Arkansas Valley Music and Dance, Barbra Baker, Casa Tango, CEDE Dance Studio, High Steppin’ Dance Company, Soma Dance Company and Susan Topping. Tickets are $15 for adults; $5 for students and children. This event is a benefit to fund future SteamPlant dance performances.

 

 

27 ~ SteamPlant 7:30 – 10:00 pm: KRCC in Concert, Theater
KRCC Radio presents Grammy nominated Alvin Youngblood Hart and Valerie June live in concert in our Theater. The roots music of Valerie June opens the evening at 7:30 pm, She travels to the SteamPlant straight from back-to-back performances in Paris, France. Her voice is described as a liquid silk from the heart of Tennessee. Explore her music here: www.valeriejune.com Alvin Youngblood Hart, one of the foremost practitioners of country blues, takes the SteamPlant stage second. He plays guitar, banjo and mandolin. Taj Mahal once described Hart as, “The boy has got thunder in his hands.” He travels the world performing solo and with his band. 28 ~ Knitting with Ark Valley High Rollers (AVHR). Come help knit youth sized hats for Ronald McDonald house. Members of AVHR will be knitting from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Serendipity Yarn & Gifts. Don't know how to knit? No problem, knitting instruction available from Bessy Black Eye or help Natty Dread craft felt and button embellishments for attachment on the completed hats. Stop by to talk with the AVHR members about Roller Derby, knitting, and how you can be a part of our team. Free refreshments. Please bring your own yarn or a discount will be available on yarn purchased that day.

 

 

28 ~ Salida Cafe and Roastery present Chuck Pyle with violinist Gordon Burt 7:30pm to 9:30pm
Famed cowboy singer/songerwriter will be joined by Gordon Burt's power-violin. The Chuck Pyle Finger-Style approach to guitar has distinguished him as a true original. $15 in advance for assured seating.

 

 

30 ~FRESH MEAT MONDAY. Please join us as we start our 12 step program to becoming an Ark Valley High Roller. Ladies and gents that are 18 years or older and are interested in becoming a member of AVHR please come to Chaffee County Fairgrounds on Monday January 30th at 6:00 PM. Members of AVHR will be introducing you to the sport of roller derby. We have many positions available including; roller derby skaters (must be female), skating referees (male or female), Non skating officials (male or female), and volunteers (male or female). During Fresh Meat Mondays AVHR will teach you all that you need to know about the sport and life style of Roller Derby. (Chaffee County Fairgrounds 10165 CR 120 Poncha Springs).
