1 ~ Last day of the Chaffee County Fair. Chaffee County Fairgrounds.

 

7 ~ 19th Annual Angel of Shavano Car Show. Registration begins at 8 a.m and show will finish at 4 p.m.
Stay for the cruise beginning at 4p.m. - 7 p.m. Music at Riverside Park to follow with local favorite, Dogman.
Location - Sackett and F Street along Riverside Park in Historic Downtown Salida.

 

7 ~ Salida Aspen Concert
Aug. 7 (Sat): Inon Barnatan, the 31-year-old Israeli pianist, is considered an expert on Schubert and his music. He performed in Salida for the first time last year and has since performed "Schubert Ascending," a three-concert festival at New York’s Lincoln Center devoted to Schubert’s late works. Performance time 7:30 p.m. at John Held Auditorium, Salida High School, 10th and D Streets, Salida CO. Tickets $15 at the door or online at

14 ~ Salida Aspen Concert
Aug. 14 (Sat): Ben Pila, classical guitar and other musicians (TBA) will perform the season’s last concert. Juilliard-trained Benjamin Pila is the only classical guitarist chosen to be a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. He has played at New York’s Lincoln Center and Washington D.C.’s John F. Kennedy Center, the Salida concert audience has not heard a solo guitarist since 1981, so this will be an unusual treat. Performance time 7:30 p.m. at John Held Auditorium, Salida High School, 10th and D Streets, Salida CO. Tickets $15 at the door or online at

14 ~ Historic Hutchinson Homestead Ranch Tours
Guided tours of the Historic Hutchinson Homestead Ranch, located between Salida and Poncha Springs, 8913 West Highway 50, in Chaffee County, will be offered from 1 to 3 pm on the second and fourth Saturdays of June, July and August. Admission is free, and donations to the ongoing preservation project are gratefully accepted. Docents will be at the Homestead to take visitors through the main house and newly restored log out buildings of the historic ranch.

21 ~ Summer Celebration for Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County - A wine and beer tasting event with live music and scrumptious appetizers prepared by local restauranteurs. Great door prizes and a chance to see what this vital organization does for the youth of our county. Indoors and outdoors at Buena Vista Community Center, 6-9 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are requested to BGCCC for continued programming for our 500 local youth members. 27-29 ~ The Alpine Orchestra enters its 20th season with a series of concerts ~

Friday
, August 27th, 7:30 p m, Annunciation Catholic Church, Leadville.
Saturday
the 28th, 7:30 p m, Salida Steamplant.
And a Sunday matinee on the 29th, 3 p m, Mountain Heights Baptist Church, Buena Vista.

The diverse program includes numerous familiar melodies with works by Beethoven, Bizet, Mozart, Offenbach and Wagner; also The Lord of the Rings movie music. Pianist Karlie Carter of Buena Vista is the guest artist and will be featured in a Gershwin medley and Barry's Somewhere in Time.

The 35 piece symphony has members from throughout the upper Arkansas valley and invites everyone to its concerts. There is no admission charge but contributions are welcome to help defray expenses.

The Crest Crank is an annual one-day mountain biking fundraiser for the Alliance Against Domestic Abuse. Riders traverse the 20+ mile Monarch Crest trail and conclude their ride back at a fun post-ride BBQ. More information is available at www.crestcrank.org or by calling 719-539-7347.
